Biography of Lola Kamalova and Bek Shakirov
Let us introduce ourselves: We’re Lola & Bek, Russian Fine Artists who live and work in New York City. We were born in Soviet Union. Bek Shakirov has graduated from Moscow Fine Art Academy in 1988. Lola Kamalova has graduated from Art Institute of Tashkent city. After graduation we’ve exhibited together in Aidan Gallery of Moscow. During turbulent years of “Perestroika”, one of the fine art galleries in New York has invited us to work in New York City. Ever since we fell in-love with the city and have been living there. For several years we’ve worked in fashion industry followed by graphic design and illustration for multitude of magazines.

Our work has been recognized several times as a regional design winner in Print Magazine. Among our clients are: Sony Music, Business Week, New York Times, and the Margeotes Fertitta and Partner’s Stolichnaya ad campaign. “Bibi” is our first debut short animation. We think that being educated in fine art was a significant asset that helped and guided us during the entire process of this project.
